A more touristy abandoned exploration, the bobsled tracks from the 1984 Sarajevo Olympics remain in the mountains above the city, now covered in graffiti. No sketchy trespassing or near-death experiences required!

In the mountains above Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, is a bobsled track leftover from the 1984 Winter Olympic Games. It has been turned into a bit of a tourist attraction, with a cable car leading up the mountain to it. There is also the option to walk two hours uphill to arrive, the more interesting (and free) route. Need I state which one I took?

Graffiti covers most portions of the cement track, with the 1984 Olympic mascot, a wolf named Vučko, appearing periodically.

Measuring 1,300 meters in total, the track winds around down the mountain in and out of trees.

It’s possible to walk alongside or directly in the track, and a fun adventure to follow it all the way down. A little strange to be exploring an abandoned site alongside so many people, though.

Walking back down the mountain, the trail passes by some other abandoned structures. It’s not really clear what any of them were, but the art was cool.
