Visiting India’s Biggest ‘Jantar Mantar’ Observatory

The Jantar Mantar astrological observatory in Jaipur is one of 5 such complexes constructed in northern India from 1724 and 1730 by Maharajah Sawaii Jai Singh II. The site has 20 main instruments, all made of stone, and includes the world’s largest sundial (73 feet tall). It’s pretty unbelievable, especially since all the instruments work. The descriptions which refer to it as an “archaeological marvel” are definitely accurate!
